I have not personally had an experience with this department outside of walking in to pick my brother up whom was arrested for what initially started as asking a store clerk for help .. he was under the influence and left by his designated driver after catching a flat tire went into a store for help and stero typed by both the clerk an Southgate police . ( he was calling our mother from the store phone an dropped to his knees to pray an begun to cry ) so I guess this made the clerk fearful .. when southgate arrived they where informed by my brother the situation and also being informed he had not been mentally okay and was having a breake down (he had severe adhd and anxiety since he was a child) and that our mother was on her way to get him and help fix his tire. Southgate refused to allow him to wait for my mom by his car in the parking lot . They told him to leave my brother again having an anxiety attack telling them he is lost an broken down and waiting on our mother if he can stay in the parking lot with his car . The officer told him he needed to leave. So my brothers response was replied with a comment that contained swearing for that he was arrested. Simply asking for help an being forced drunk an mentally unstable to wonder the streets .. He blew a 1.8 and .2 from hospitalization state and come to find out had a low sugar episode on top of it all too walk the streets or be arrested .. why was he not helped or assisted like most officers do a stranded person or unstable person ? Instead he was treated like a criminal simply based on his appearance. No question in my mind . I know my brother has a tendency of getting very emotional and sometimes loud when he is scared, having a brake down and being misunderstood but he's never been violent or aggressive with anyone and for them to treat him that way under the influence or not is wrong , he's petrified of asking for help of anyone now he's afraid of the people who are supposed to be there to protect him . He has been in a like fog since this happened a week ago .. he's had 2 anxiety attacks at work and a mini mental break down with me. So not right how they treated the situation nor my little brother.
